LEGO has unveiled its first-ever The X-Files set, and it arrives with a fittingly investigative twist: Gillian Anderson returning as FBI Special Agent Dana Scully.

Revealed July 21, 2026, from Billund, the LEGO Ideas The X-Files (21369) set was made in collaboration with Disney Entertainment and stars Anderson in a mini-film where Scully investigates a mysterious package that leads her straight to the set.

The 1,478-piece build recreates Fox Mulder’s office, a forest clearing, and a hovering UFO, with eight minifigures including Mulder, Scully, Walter Skinner, Mr. X, Alex Krycek, Carl Busch, The Flukeman, and a grey alien.

The design comes from fan Brent Waller, whose original submission won LEGO Ideas’ “90s Nostalgia Challenge”; Anderson has followed the project since receiving custom minifigure mock-ups over a decade ago.

Speaking to Forbes, Anderson called the tribute a career highlight, “right up there” with her Simpsons cameo and a Mad Magazine cover. LEGO Insiders get early access from August 1, with general release on August 4 at $199.99, including a free Scully’s Lab (40896) set through August 10.

The reveal caps a busy year for LEGO’s celebrity playbook, following Olivia Rodrigo’s five-set music collection and Jason Momoa’s “Never Stop Playing” campaign.

For Anderson, it follows a run of brand work, including her turn as M&S’s “Chief Compliments Officer” and her role as L’Oréal Paris global ambassador. She next appears in the horror film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, out August 7, 2026.

Takeaways

This isn’t just nostalgia marketing; it’s LEGO cashing in on genuine, decade-long fan devotion, since Waller’s build predates the official set by over ten years. F

or Anderson, it’s proof that a single iconic role can keep generating fresh cultural currency 30+ years later, even as she juggles beauty, fashion, and film work simultaneously.

This also shows LEGO diversifying its celebrity strategy across music (Rodrigo), family/wellness (Momoa), and now cult-classic TV nostalgia, three very different audiences, one brick.

Does reviving a specific character (not just the actor) make fan-driven campaigns feel more authentic than typical ambassador deals? Could other long-dormant ’90s/2000s TV icons be LEGO’s next move?
