  • Brooklyn-based musician and Nation of Language bassist Alex MacKay has signed his darkwave solo project, cutouts, with global booking agency ROAM for EU representation.
  • Agents Sarah Joy and Jack Berg at ROAM will handle EU booking duties, while Out Of Office Management continues as management.
  • cutouts released its debut LP Snakeskin in February 2025, a genre-blending project rooted in psychedelic darkwave, industrial, and electronic sounds.
  • The signing adds to ROAM's growing alternative roster, following recent EU signings including Truck Violence and Niis.

ROAM, the powerhouse indie booking agency formed from the merger of Arrival Artists and ATC Live in 2025, has added cutouts to its EU roster. Agents Sarah Joy and Jack Berg will oversee European booking for the project, while Out Of Office Management stays on for management.

cutouts is the brainchild of Alex MacKay, the Brooklyn-based musician, in-demand producer, and bassist for indie synth-pop act Nation of Language. The project lives at the sinister, sardonic edge of psychedelic darkwave, pulling equally from indie, industrial, and electronic influences.

MacKay dropped the debut LP Snakeskin on February 7, 2025, a 10-track record co-produced with Abe Seiferth, featuring singles “Narc,” “Paw of the Monkey,” “Bloodsucker,” and “Cowgirl” (feat. Tomberlin). On the production front, MacKay recently worked on CHAI’s self-titled LP via Sub Pop.

This EU deal signals a clear push to expand cutouts’ footprint across European stages. This move is consistent with ROAM’s recent momentum in the alternative space, the agency also signed Truck Violence and brought Niis on board for representation around the same period.

Takeaways

cutouts isn’t just another side project, Snakeskin made a genuine case for MacKay as a standalone artistic voice, and now ROAM is backing that with real EU infrastructure.

For an artist navigating dual careers, both as a member of Nation of Language and as a solo act, having dedicated EU agents in Sarah Joy and Jack Berg could be the difference between a cult following and a breakthrough European run.

ROAM, built from the DNA of Arrival Artists and ATC Live, has a track record of scaling indie and alternative artists from clubs to festival stages, exactly the trajectory cutouts looks primed for.

Could a European tour cycle push cutouts from underground cult status to mainstream darkwave recognition? With Nation of Language also touring internationally, how will Alex MacKay manage both projects on the road?

Will cutouts land a spot on a major European festival bill, think Primavera or Melt, now that proper EU booking infrastructure is in place?
