Ben Harper is an American blues and rock musician, singer and songwriter born in Pomona, California in 1969. In his teen years, he picked up the acoustic slide guitar, and started performing, gaining local notoriety until in 1992 he made his debut with the full-length album “Welcome to the Cruel World”. While touring in support of the gold-certified album “Fight For Your Mind” (1995), Harper recorded “The Will to Live”, which went out in 1997, and also featured the debut of his backing band “The Innocent Criminals”. With 1999’s “Burn to Shine”, the artist embarked on a world tour, and opened a concert for the Dave Matthews Band. After 2003’s “Diamonds on the Inside”, Harper made a collaborative album with The Blind Boys of Alabama titled “There Will Be a Light”. 2006’s “Both Sides of a Gun” peaked at #7 in Billboard album charts, and prompted the artist for more successful albums in the late 2000’s, including a collaboration with Relentless7. In 2014 Harper released “Childhood Home” in collaboration with his mother Ellen, and in 2020 he wrote and produced a full-length album for the singer Mavis Staples.
