Tyla Laura Seethal, professionally known as Tyla, was born on January 30, 2002, in Edenvale, Gauteng, South Africa. Growing up in a musically inclined environment, she started performing at local talent shows and events during her teenage years, which paved the way for her future in the music industry. Tyla's career gained significant momentum in January 2021 with the release of her debut single "Getting Late," featuring Kooldrink. The song, infused with Afrobeat and Amapiano elements, quickly went viral, amassing millions of views on YouTube and establishing Tyla as an emerging talent in the music scene. The success of "Getting Late" was a key factor in Tyla signing with Epic Records later that year through their African division.

In 2022, Tyla released the single "Overdue," which was included in the soundtrack for Netflix's South African series "Blood & Water." This track helped her maintain her growing popularity and presence on streaming platforms. Her 2023 single "To Last" also performed well. In February 2023, Tyla released "Water," which quickly gained traction on social media, particularly on TikTok.
