The Blind Boys of Alabama are a traditional gospel band originally from Talladega, Alabama, U.S. The group was founded in 1939 and has featured more than 10 musicians over its history, almost all of them visually impaired. The Blind Boys got their first breakthrough after their appearance in the 1983 Award-winning musical “The Gospel at Colonus”. Since then, the band has played worldwide and they have performed with legendary musicians like Prince, Ben Harper, Bon Iver and Amadou & Mariam. The band has won five Grammy Awards and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009. The band also made it into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2003 and into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in 2010. They also have been nominated multiple times to prestigious awards like the 2016 Grammy Awards for Best American Roots Performance for their song “Mother's Children Have a Hard Time”, from the album “God Don't Never Change: The Songs of Blind Willie Johnson”. They have released over 30 albums and they have toured all around the world.
