The Mexican cumbia punk band, known for coining the "Cumbia Punk" genre and the now-iconic marimba mosh pit, has two critically acclaimed albums: Batuco (2020) and Chimborazo (2023), and will debut new music on upcoming U.S. spring/summer tour dates.
- The band continues booking representation with TBA Agency and has major international festival dates booked for July 2026, including Festival Cruïlla (Barcelona), Gurtenfestival (Switzerland), and Fuji Rock Festival (Japan).
- KFM President Brian Long cited the band's creative alignment with fellow KFM artists Gogol Bordello and Seun Kuti & Mádé Kuti as a key reason for the signing.
Knitting Factory Management has signed on as co-management for Mexican cumbia punk band Son Rompe Pera, joining forces with the band’s existing manager Timothy Bisig of Surshows, who has handled the band since discovering them at a Mexico City flea market years ago.
Aaron Johnson, KFM’s VP of Artist Management & Business Development, will serve as the primary point of contact on the KFM side. The band continues its booking relationship with TBA Agency.
Formed in 2017 by brothers Jesús “Kacho” and Allan “Mongo” Gama from the outskirts of Mexico City, Son Rompe Pera coined the “Cumbia Punk” genre, blending traditional marimba with raw punk energy into a live show that’s become legendary for its marimba mosh pit.
Their debut Batuco (2020, AYA/ZZK Records) was a tribute to their late father; their follow-up Chimborazo (2023) earned praise from NPR, Billboard, and AP. They performed at Jazz Fest 2025 and the new signing comes just as the band teases new music tied to a busy spring/summer U.S. run.
Similar artist-forward management moves in 2026 include Dylan Gossett signing with TMWRK for management and Peter Peter signing with Range Music for management.
KFM President Brian Long noted the band’s natural fit alongside KFM’s roster of genre-defying artists like Gogol Bordello and Seun & Mádé Kuti. July 2026 dates include Festival Cruïlla (Barcelona), Gurtenfestival (Switzerland), and Fuji Rock Festival (Japan).
Takeaways
The co-management structure here is notable. Surshows’ Timothy Bisig stays in the picture with his Europe/UK territory strength, while KFM brings institutional muscle and a roster of kindred-spirit acts.
That’s a smart play: rather than a full management swap, the band adds firepower without losing the person who built them from the ground up.
For a genre-bending Latin act with a fanatical live following and international festival traction, this kind of layered team could accelerate the crossover momentum their two-album run has built.
The marimba mosh pit is already a global export, the next question is whether KFM’s network can move them from cult-favorite to true headliner.
Can a co-management model, rather than a clean handoff, give Son Rompe Pera the best of both worlds, or could divided responsibilities slow decisions? With Fuji Rock, Gurtenfestival, and Festival Cruïlla all on the summer slate, is 2026 the year Son Rompe Pera fully breaks through in Europe and Asia?
