Tear for Fears are an English new wave pop rock band. The band was formed in Bath, England, in 1981 and it consists of Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. Their debut album, titled “The Hurting” was a bold statement in the pop local scene and it earned the duo recognition in England. Their second album, “Songs from the Big Chair” introduced the band to international stardom, establishing the duo as one of the leading acts of MTV in the late 1980’s. The album reached number one on the US Billboard 200, and it achieved multi-platinum status in both the UK and the US. Their second album also contained two Billboard Hot 100 number one hits: “Shout” and “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”. The latter won the Brit Award for Best British Single in 1986. Their third album, “The Seeds of Love” was also a huge hit, and it explored new psychedelic and jazz sounds. After the third album, Smith parted ways and Orzabal continued with the band. In 1993, Tears for Fears released a fourth album “Elemental” which was essentially a solo record for Orzabal. In 2004, Orzabal reunited with Smith for “Beatlesque Everybody Loves a Happy Ending”.
