Rapper J.I.D. was born Destin Route in Atlanta, GA on October 31, 1990.
While playing football at Hampton University, J.I.D. hooked up with fellow MCs to form the Spillage Village collective. He left college in 2012 to pursue his music career and released his first mixtape, Route of Evil. 2014 saw him embark on a tour with EarthGang, Bas, and Ab-Soul. That same year, Spillage Village dropped the Bears Like This compilation album.
J.I.D.’s debut solo EP, Dicaprio, was released in 2015. Later that year, Spillage Village released the Bears Like This Too album. Bears Like This Too Much followed in 2016 and included production by Mac Miller and a feature by J Cole. Also in 2016, J.I.D. appeared on DJ Khaled’s Major Key album, contributing backing vocals to “Jermaine’s Interlude.”
In 2017, J.I.D. signed to J Cole’s record label, Dreamville, and dropped the single “Never,” along with the full-length album The Never Story.
