About Stars

birthplace Birthplace
Montreal, Quebec, Canada
occupation Occupation
Music Group

Canadian indie pop/rock band Stars formed at the very end of the ’90s. Toronto natives Torquil Campbell (vocals), Chris Seligman (keyboards), Amy Millan (vocals/guitar), Evan Cranley (bass), and Patrick Mc Gee (drums) came together while living in New York, where they recorded and released their first album “Nightsongs” (2001). They would soon move to Montreal and fit right in the city’s booming indie scene, along with projects like Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, and The Stills. Their second album “Heart” (2003) achieved critical acclaim and paved the road for a more ambitiously-arranged next release, “Set Yourself on Fire” (2004). After a two-year tour, the band came back to Montreal, released one remix album, and one darker sounding full-length album, “In Our Bedroom After The War”, featuring collaborations with Metric, Apostle of Hustle, and Junior Boys. They also set up their own label, Soft Revolution. Their carefully crafted lyrics shone again in “The North” (2012) and “No One is Lost” (2014). After a three year hiatus, they came back with album “There Is No Love in Fluorescent Light” (2017).
