R.E.M. is a band formed in Athens, Georgia, United States in 1980. The group members are Michael Stipe, Mike Mills, Peter Buck, and Bill Berry. Pop/rock is their musical specialty, and their style is alternative pop/rock, alternative/indie rock, American underground, college rock, jangle pop, adult alternative pop/rock, and contemporary pop/rock. R.E.M. marked the point where post-punk turned into alternative rock.
