La Vela Puerca is a popular Uruguayan rock band that was formed in 1995 in Montevideo, Uruguay. The founding members of the band were Sebastian Teysera (lead vocals, songwriter), Nicolas Lieutier (bass guitar) and Santiago Butler (guitar). They later added more members later on.
La Vela Puerca made their first appearance in the same year in a Montevidean street part on Christmas Eve, December 24th 1995. They have famously opened for popular groups like los Piojos, la Renga and Todos Tus Muertos. Their debut album Deskarado appeared in 1998 and was released by Independent Obligado Producciones. Some of their other well known full length efforts include De Bichos Y Flores (2001), A Contraluz (2004) and El Impulso (2007).
