Illiterate Light, a rock duo that formed in the summer of 2015, defies expectations. In late 2018, they released their self-titled debut album.

The creative journey between Gorman and Cochran, which has spanned more than a decade, is anything but ordinary. The duo has owned and operated an organic farm in the Shenandoah Valley, toured the mid-Atlantic on a bicycle in many acoustic bands, and lived in tiny towns while pursuing alternative schooling.

Their varied upbringing is reflected in their music and lyrics, which oscillate between pools of postmodern ambiguity and rivers of exuberant optimism. Despite being shaped by the DIY music culture in their hometown of Harrisonburg, Virginia, the pair has evolved tremendously by immersing themselves in the vibrant alternative communities of Richmond, Virginia, and Nashville, Tennessee.
