Jason Michael Robinson Diakite, better known as Timbuktu, is a Swedish rapper who was born on January 11, 1975, in Lund. He began rapping in the ’90s, and he formed the duo Excel with a Danish rapper and released an album, “Bright Lights Big City” before separating. In 2000, he released “T2: Kontrakultur”, the album that started his rap career and earned himself a voice of political dissent and challenge, which made him famous in Norway and Sweden. Timbuktu’s next album was released in 2007, titled “Oberoendeframkallande”, and it topped the Swedish charts. He became a regular host of a popular radio and TV broadcast in 2008, “Musikhjälpen”, that raised money for charity and different causes through song requests. In 2011, he released the album “Sagolandet”, and it was followed by “Pusselbitar” in 2012; both went gold in Sweden.
