Sharaya J is the stage name of the American rapper and choreographer Sharaya Howell. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on January 17, 1984. She is best known for her singles “BANJI” and “Smash Up the Place.” In 2010 she was signed to Missy Elliott‘s label The Goldmind Inc. and released her debut single titled “Green Light.” She released several more singles with the label and in 2016 left The Goldmind and started her own production company, Banji Entertainment LLC. In 2017 she released her debut mixtape titled Dope Product. Howell was a dancer on the 2008 film Step Up 2 the Streets and the 2010 film Step Up 3D. In 2018 she competed in the music competition The Four: Battle for Stardom and was the runner-up of season 2. She was nominated for a Talent Recap Fan Choice Award for Breakout Talent Show Star in 2018.
