Suffocation is an American death metal band formed in Centereach, New York in 1988. The current members of the band are Rick Myers on vocals, Terrance Hobbs on lead guitar, Charlie Errigo on rhythm guitar, Derek Boyer on bass guitar, and Eric Morotti on drums. They released their debut EP titled Human Waste in 1991 and released their second EP in 1998 titled Despise the Sun. Their debut studio album was also released in 1991 titled Effigy of the Forgotten. They have since released the albums Breeding the Spawn, Pierced from Within, Souls to Deny, Suffocation, Blood Oath, Pinnacle of Bedlam, and …Of the Dark Light. They have also released a live album, a compilation album, and a demo. They have released music and albums through the record labels Nuclear Blast, Relapse, and Roadrunner. The band is credited as being one of the pioneers of technical death metal.
