Sam Prekop is a British post-rock musician, best known for being a part of the group The Sea and Cake. He was born on the 18th of October, 1964, in London, England, although he grew up in Chicago, U.S. In 1988, he founded the rock band Shrimp Boat, which was active from the late 1988 to early 1993. After the group disbanded, Prekop, alongside Eric Claridge formed the group The Sea and the Cake, and later, John McEntire and Archer Prewitt would join. In 1999, Prekop released his debut solo album, produced by Jim O’Rourke. The album featured his characteristic delicate use of synths and retro futuristic aesthetic. He released a second album in 2005, “Who’s Your New Professor” followed by “Old Punch Card”, both albums with the label Thrill Jockey. In 2015, Prekop’s released his next album “The Republic” which got positive reviews by the critics.
