Eight-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves has joined forces with tech giant Meta to release Kacey Musgraves Middle of Nowhere: An Immersive Experience.
The exclusive virtual reality concert premiered on Meta Quest headsets, giving fans a private front-row view inside an authentic Texas honky-tonk.
Filmed at the legendary Billy Bob’s Texas in Fort Worth, the performance was built from the ground up for a 3D VR 180 presentation using Blackmagic URSA cameras. Creative studio Untold Studios produced and directed the project alongside co-producers MediaMonks and 7 Cinematics.
Rather than locking viewers into a fixed audience seat, the dynamic production moves around the venue. Viewers can step directly onto the stage, sit inside Musgraves’ intimate guitar circle, and take in the sights of the dance floor and indoor rodeo arena.
Musgraves performs fan favorites alongside songs from her seventh studio album, Middle of Nowhere, released in May 2026 through Lost Highway Records. The release builds on momentum from her critically praised Deeper Well era and major festival headline slots.
This concert marks Musgraves’ first partnership with Meta. The social tech company has steadily expanded its library of exclusive artist concerts on Quest, having previously created immersive experiences with top stars such as Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, Coldplay, and BLACKPINK.
The tech venture also complements Musgraves’ active slate of lifestyle brand collaborations. Her leap into virtual reality follows her popular Texas-inspired collection with Stanley 1913 and her move into holistic health through an intimate wellness collaboration with Medicine Mama.
Takeaways
Musgraves’ honky-tonk special highlights how artists are turning virtual reality into a natural extension of their creative world rather than just a digital replica of an arena tour. Country music thrives on raw connection and small-room intimacy, qualities that traditional stadium livestreams often fail to capture.
By placing viewers right inside a guitar circle at Billy Bob’s, Meta and Musgraves show that immersive tech can elevate roots-driven acoustic music just as effectively as high-budget electronic pop shows.
For Meta, recruiting an acclaimed country star also helps position Quest headsets in front of broader, non-gamer demographics who value authentic live music experiences.
