- BAFTA-winning filmmaker Babak Anvari and his production company Two & Two Pictures have signed with Range Media Partners for management, with Payne Cowley and Rich Cook overseeing the Film/TV relationship.
- Anvari's breakout debut Under the Shadow premiered at Sundance 2016, won a BAFTA for Outstanding Debut, and was selected as the UK's entry for the 89th Academy Awards Best Foreign Language Film.
- Both Anvari and Two & Two Pictures continue with William Morris Endeavor (WME) for US representation and with Independent Talent Group for UK representation.
- Range's recent signings in the same space include actor Jack Dylan Grazer and Fola Evans-Akingbola, signaling a strong push to grow its film and TV roster.
Babak Anvari, the London-based, Iranian-born filmmaker behind Under the Shadow, has signed with Range Media Partners for management.
His production company, Two & Two Pictures, is included in the deal. Managers Payne Cowley and Rich Cook will handle the relationship on the Film/TV side. Anvari previously held management deals with Untitled Entertainment and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
Anvari’s debut feature Under the Shadow, a Persian-language supernatural horror film, premiered at Sundance 2016, was acquired by Netflix, won a BAFTA for Outstanding Debut, and earned two additional BAFTA nominations.
His follow-up Wounds (Sundance/Cannes 2019), starring Armie Hammer, Dakota Johnson, and Zazie Beetz, was released on Hulu and Netflix internationally. His most recent film Hallow Road, starring Rosamund Pike and Matthew Rhys, earned praise following its SXSW 2025 premiere.
Two & Two Pictures, which Anvari co-founded with Lucan Toh, has produced films including Asphalt City (Cannes 2023), Arcadia (Berlin 2024), and A24’s The Front Room. Up next, the company produced You Mother Your Mother Your Mother, starring Mahershala Ali, set for release later this year via Orion MGM.
The signing fits Range Media Partners pattern of aggressively expanding its film roster in 2026. The company recently added Jack Dylan Grazer and Fola Evans-Akingbola to its management slate as well.
Anvari and Two & Two continue to be represented by WME and Independent Talent Group.
Takeaways
This is a smart, well-timed move for both sides. Anvari has quietly built one of the most impressive filmmaker resumes in elevated genre filmmaking, from Sundance to Cannes to SXSW, while Two & Two Pictures has developed into a real creative force producing films for A24, Netflix, Hulu, and Orion MGM.
Landing at Range gives them a management partner aligned with that filmmaker-first, prestige-genre sensibility. For Range, adding a BAFTA winner with a full production company attached isn’t just a signing, it’s a content pipeline.
Could the Range partnership accelerate Two & Two Pictures’ push into US studio territory, especially following You Mother Your Mother Your Mother with Mahershala Ali? With Hallow Road still gaining momentum post-SXSW, could this new management deal fast-track Anvari’s next directorial project into production?
