Anthony Edwards is the new face of Adidas Originals’ latest CLOT release, stepping into an illustrated anime world created by Edison Chen.
The Minnesota Timberwolves guard anchors the new colorway of the CLOT Superstar by Edison Chen, dropping July 25 for $200 through the CONFIRMED app, adidas.com, and select retailers worldwide.
The sneaker comes in White, Brown, and Unity Orange, built from premium pebbled leather with perforated quarter panels, serrated eye stays and Three Stripes, and gold lace tips, all details pulled from earlier CLOT Superstar releases.
Longtime CLOT collaborator Annie Choi illustrated the campaign, placing Edwards in a fictional, anime-inspired setting rather than in a standard product shoot. The launch follows CLOT’s recent Mundial Collection and extends Chen’s ongoing anime universe for the brand.
This marks Edwards’ second team-up with Chen. Their first, the flame-graphic CLOT x Adidas Anthony Edwards 1 Low, debuted during Edwards’ 2025 “Believe That” tour of China, though it remained strictly a hyper-limited Friends & Family exclusive rather than a wide retail launch.
Adidas has leaned hard on Edwards throughout 2026. He unveiled the adidas Believe That 1, a budget takedown of his signature line, and teamed with Travis Hunter for an AE1 football cleat commercial.
Beyond Adidas, his headline deal since 2020, Edwards also holds endorsements with Sprite, Bose, Prada, and Chipotle, where he made history as the first NBA player to land a major partnership and national TV campaign with the fast-casual giant.
Adidas Originals has stacked a wide roster of ambassadors of its own. Its Spring 2026 Superstar campaign brought together Samuel L. Jackson, James Harden, Lamine Yamal, JENNIE, and Kendall Jenner,
while CLOT’s line has also crossed over with BAPE, echoing James Harden’s own Nipsey Hussle tribute sneaker with adidas earlier this year.
Takeaways
Adidas keeps writing Edwards into its most creative, culture-forward lanes rather than treating him as a straight performance athlete.
Pairing him with CLOT’s anime universe, alongside a budget sneaker line and an NFL crossover cleat with Travis Hunter, shows a brand testing how far one signature athlete’s personality can stretch across price points and genres.
For CLOT, folding an NBA star into an illustrated storyline (rather than a typical lookbook) signals Edison Chen’s continued push to blend basketball culture with his East-meets-West design language.
Does putting Edwards in an anime narrative expand his appeal, or dilute the “Ant-Man” persona built on the court? Could this anime-driven storytelling format become a template for other adidas athletes?
