Mattel’s Barbie has a new baller. The brand unveiled a Barbie Signature doll modeled after Angel Reese on July 24, styled in Reebok Angel Reese 1 basketball shoes done up in a new Barbie-pink colorway, with a matching real-life pair for fans to buy too.

The reveal happened at TOGETHXR House in Chicago during WNBA All-Star Weekend, the fan hub tied to the women’s sports media company Reese recently joined as a co-owner. Inside “The Angel Reese Dream Closet,” fans could pose in a life-size Barbie box and preview the doll and shoes up close.

“Having my own Barbie doll is a true dream come true,” Reese said, calling it a reminder for girls to “go after their dreams with confidence.” Barbie’s Nathan Baynard said the doll honors Reese’s “on-court achievements and entrepreneurial leadership.”

The doll is available now exclusively in stores at Target, and online at Target, Walmart, Amazon, and Mattel Shop. The matching Reebok shoes launch August 3.

This is Reese’s first Barbie tie-in, but her latest Reebok drop since becoming the brand’s first major NIL signee back in 2023 under Shaquille O’Neal, following June’s viral “Poison Angel” colorway. Barbie, meanwhile, is on a celebrity-doll streak, recently honoring Miley Cyrus with her own collectible.

Off the sneaker, Reese worked with Barbie on a limited jersey-and-headwear capsule, and just months ago fronted Victoria’s Secret’s global “Season of Strapless” campaign.

Up next: a Barbie Game Day between the Atlanta Dream and Las Vegas Aces on August 3, complete with co-branded merch.

Takeaways

This one’s bigger than a toy drop; Reese joining Barbie’s roster alongside musicians like Miley Cyrus shows the brand chasing wherever cultural heat is right now, and women’s sports is clearly it.

Pairing the doll with an actual buyable sneaker also blurs the line between “collectible” and “merch,” turning the launch into a two-for-one moment fans can wear and display. And stacking this with the Barbie Game Day just a week later means Mattel isn’t treating this as a one-off; it’s building a rollout.

Does landing your own Barbie doll mark a new tier of athlete stardom, above even All-Star selections? Will more WNBA players land toy-aisle deals as leagues chase younger, brand-loyal fans?
