When booking an artist for a concert overseas, how long does the negotiation usually take?

We have inquired for an availability of an artist to do a concert in an Asian country, and have already submitted the binder fee since October. But all we are getting are non commital answers up until now.

Any idea how long this kind of contract negotiation should last? and any tips?

When simply checking for availability you must never pay anything at all! No fee!

Most probably you are dealing with a middle agency. In this case it depends on the realtionship that the agency has with the artist's management or artist's exclusive booking agency. But still, they shou have give you an answer by now.
From my point of view, you shoul try to book the artist from another agency or the artist will probably be booked for the same date by other promoter and you will lose.
Most of the time I work directly with the exclusive agent of the artists but, sometimes, you can get better deals from middle agencies who book tours for various artists, but there are few good middle agencies and a lot of scams, unfortunatelly.

I myself am a middle agent, doing things differently than others, so something is wrong with your deal. When I have a client sign a booking contract (agreement) this is directly with the artist's management and I close the deal this way. The client sends the 50% of the total cost (as per the contract) to the artist's management directly right after signing and 50% of my commission to me at that time. And the rest 50% will be paid this way before the concert, as per the contract! This way I wont ever receive clients' money for the concert at all, only my commission. Booking is directly with every artist's management or agency!

yep this is the best way

The agent receives commission and the artist management will receive deposit via wire transfer

Length of contract negotiations can vary.

But you submitted a binder fee when checking for availability? Your dealing with a middle agency, and not the actual representative of the artist. If you sent a binder fee in October, and you still haven't heard back regarding availability.....this isn't right especially considering you paid a binder fee. This is a big red flag.

maybe you're talking to the assistants/staff instead of the managers themselves? Try directly contacting the manager or agent, as a lot of these numbers directly link to the agencies themselves.
