Estimating pricing before an offer?

Estimating pricing before an offer?

I’m an event producer and we are looking at booking several artists. I’m fairly sure I understand the process, but how do you estimate a ballpark figure for an artist before making an offer?

Is it reasonable to simply ask the booking agent?

Yes you could simply just ask the booking agent, and most times they will provide it to you. Others will ask you to just put in an offer.

There are a few others ways to get a ballpark figure on the pricing. One way is to look at other venues that they have performed at, look at the capacity of those venues. Take the capacity and multiply it by the ticket price, and you can get about a 10K +/- ballpark estimate of the price. This process isn't perfect.

Another way is to ask other promoters who have booked this person before. I would recommend this. You can reach out to promoters in non-competing markets, and ask them how much the spent. If you are not in a competing market, many times they will be open to providing you such information.
