Do celebrities really help with brand growth?

I’ve heard other small businesses talk about using celebrity endorsements to grow their brand, but I’m skeptical. Do celebrity endorsements really help sales? And how do I go about it?

The short answer is yes, celebrity endorsements can help your sales…if you know how to use them the right way. It’s all about finding a good fit for your brand and reaching your target audience.

As for how to do it, you have a few different options for working with a celebrity. Licensing is one of the easiest ways to involve a celebrity in your brand. You basically negotiate with a celeb to lend their name to your product. It can involve any degree of additional advertising—it all depends on what you agree on. If you want to get a licensing deal, you could try sending samples of your product to the celeb to try out. You definitely want to find someone who genuinely likes your stuff. Even if you don’t get a licensing deal, you may just get some non-paid advertising if the celebrity gets photographed using your product.

Musicians and other entertainers may also be interested in giving your product placement in their videos or films. Typically, shorter productions, like music videos, are a better bet for small businesses. Placement in a blockbuster film is going to go to the big corporate brands.

Social media is another option that can work for small businesses. All the celebrity has to do is share your brand’s content. Easy for them, and it gives your content a wider audience.
