Inspired by Vanilla Ice, rapper Riff Raff – born Horst Christian Simco on January 29, 1982, in Houston, Texas – began following in the footsteps of the 1990s icon in 2005 when he started rapping and creating CDs at home. Riff Raff made his television debut when he was selected as a cast member for a season of From G’s to Gents on MTV. Though he did not go far in the season, he was nevertheless one of the more unforgettable characters. Riff Raff was contacted by rapper/comedian Simon Rex, and the two began to record as Riff Raff and Dirt Nasty.

2012 finally saw the release of his first album The Golden Alien, which he self-released, as well as his signing to the Mad Decent label, which is owned by Diplo. Riff Raff later announced that he would be teaming up with rapper Action Bronson to release an album entitled Galaxy Gladiators in 2014. In the summer of 2014, Riff Raff released his second album, this time under Mad Decent, entitled Neon Icon, which peaked at #4 on the US Rap charts.
