Plaid is an English electronic music project led by the duo consisting of Andy Turner a.k.a. Atypic and Ed Handley, a.k.a. Balil. The duo bursted in the electronic music scene during the 1990s, as founders of the band The Black Dog. They shared the scene with the likes of the Aphex Twin, B12, and Autechre, being part of the so-called Artificial Intelligence movement in electronic music. They released their debut album “Mbuki Mvuki” in 1991, followed by “Not for Threes” which was ranked by Pitchfork as number 36 on their 50 Best IDM Albums of All Time List. They have done remixes of major artists in the industry, such as Bjork, Mara Carlyle and Nicolette. In 2006, the duo composed the original soundtrack of the film “Tekkonkinkreet”.
