Travis Scott has added another chapter to his run with Nike, this time tied to the big screen. During his July 21 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Travis Scott revealed a custom Nike ACG Moc he designed exclusively for the cast and crew of Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey.”
The shoe uses a maroon pony-hair upper with gold heel detailing that nods to the helmet worn by Scott’s character, Demodocus, the blind bard who narrates Odysseus’ journey through song.
Scott said the role came from a surprise call from Nolan, whom he’d previously worked with on 2020’s “Tenet.” He also recorded “When I’m Home” for the film’s closing credits.
Nike has long gifted cast-exclusive sneakers for major film and TV productions, but this pair stands out for tying directly into Scott’s on-screen costume. It’s expected to stay a friends-and-family exclusive with no public release planned, echoing the custom Nike Moon Shoe Scott wore to the film’s premiere.
“The Odyssey” opened July 17 and delivered Nolan’s biggest worldwide opening weekend, pulling in more than $264 million globally.
The gift lands amid a packed year for Scott’s decade-long Nike and Jordan Brand ties. In May, Scott, Tom Brady, Jalen Hurts, and Saquon Barkley fronted a Cactus Jack x Oakley campaign, and in June, Cactus Jack and Nike dropped the “Pink Pack” Air Jordan 1 collection, which sold out almost instantly.
Nike has kept a similar pace elsewhere, pairing Drake and Kevin Durant for a KD19 campaign spot. A Travis Scott Air Force 1 is also expected this fall.
Takeaways
This isn’t a retail play, it’s relationship equity. Nine years into his Nike partnership, Scott has enough creative latitude to design a shoe that will never be sold, purely as a thank-you to a Christopher Nolan cast. That’s a different kind of flex than a SNKRS drop, it’s proof of how deep the trust runs between Scott and the brand.
It also shows how Scott’s sneaker instincts have started bleeding into his acting career instead of the other way around. A cast gift built around his character’s costume is a small but telling sign that Scott approaches every project, film included, as a design opportunity.
Does gifting an unreleasable shoe generate more long-term brand value than an actual product drop would? Is Scott’s acting career becoming another avenue for his design and merchandising instincts, rather than a separate lane?
