Filmmaker Michael Tiddes has signed with William Morris Endeavor (WME) for representation in the Film/TV – Literary space, following the record-breaking box office success of Scary Movie (2026). His new agents at WME are Andreas Valhouli, Philip d’Amecourt, and Trevor Astbury.
Within two weeks of release, Tiddes’ Scary Movie became the third-highest grossing installment in the franchise, hitting over $200M globally and scoring a franchise-record opening weekend of $55 million, a significant win for theatrical comedies after their sharp decline that began around 2016.
Prior to the Scary Movie hit, Tiddes scored back-to-back No. 1 Netflix films with Sextuplets and Naked, both collaborations with Marlon Wayans. He made his feature directorial debut with 2013’s A Haunted House, which grossed over $60 million worldwide on a budget of just $2.5 million.
The signing follows a strong pattern of WME adding proven comedy and genre directors, much like Ivy Wolk’s recent signing with WME and Rick Glassman’s deal with the agency. WME has also been aggressive in signing genre filmmakers, as seen with Chris Thomas Devlin’s recent WME deal.
Tiddes continues to be repped by Artists First for management and Sechel PR for publicity.
Takeaways
This signing is a clear signal of momentum; you don’t land WME’s Film/TV Literary team without having box office receipts to back it up.
With Scary Movie already the third-highest grossing entry in the franchise on a $30 million budget, and Tiddes already teasing a potential Scary Movie 7, this deal positions him as one of Hollywood’s hottest comedy directors going into the next phase of his career.
The fact that he keeps Artists First and Sechel PR in place speaks to a team that clearly works, WME simply adds firepower on the deal-making and packaging front.
With Scary Movie crossing $200M, does Tiddes now have the leverage to step outside the Wayans universe and build his own franchise? Could WME’s packaging muscle connect Tiddes with A-list studio projects beyond parody films?
