Specsavers has enlisted Groove Armada to front The Testlist, the UK’s first club guestlist series created exclusively for people over 50.

Anyone in that age bracket can enter by taking a free, three-minute online hearing screener, with a DJ set from Groove Armada at London’s Phonox on October 15, 2026 as the first reward on offer.

The date coincides with the 25th anniversary of the band’s anthem “Superstylin’.” Sign-ups close September 13, with winners notified by September 17, 2026.

The campaign draws on OnePoll research showing nearly three-quarters of over-50s still attend live music events, with over a quarter going out as often as they did 20 years ago.

Yet 38% currently take no preventative measures to safeguard their hearing at gigs, and one in five over-fifties say hearing difficulties have already reduced how often they go to live shows.

Findlay, who has experienced hearing loss and occasionally wears a hearing aid, said his generation was too busy dancing to think about the long-term cost.

Specsavers’ Audiology Marketing Director, Nick Rainbow, pushed back on campaigns that depict over-50s as past it, arguing this is the generation that built British and Irish rave culture and is still keeping nightlife alive.

The multi-channel push, developed with agency Golin Ketchum, spans a hero PR film, 30″ and 60″ TV spots, radio, out-of-home, events and social.

This is a first-time pairing for Groove Armada and Specsavers, though not the duo’s first advertising rodeo. Their track “At the River” is nearly as famous for scoring decades of Marks & Spencer ads, while Fatboy Slim’s remix of “I See You Baby” became linked to Renault Megane commercials, and last year Andy Cato appeared alongside “Superstylin'” in a spot for tool brand Makita.

The pairing also fits a broader industry pattern of brands leaning on culturally resonant names for sensory-focused campaigns, echoed recently in FLO’s Y2K-inspired eyewear tie-up with Meller and Charles Leclerc’s special-edition Ray-Ban campaign.

For Specsavers, the deal extends a track record of pairing recognisable faces with health messaging, including its long-running Canadian eye-health partnership with astronaut Chris Hadfield and celebrity-designed eyewear lines.

The Testlist also builds on Specsavers’ backing of the NTIA’s “Listen for Life” campaign, launched at the House of Commons in October 2023 to tackle hearing loss across the night-time economy.

Takeaways

This is a sharp bit of audience targeting: instead of a generic “get your hearing checked” message, Specsavers is turning a health nudge into an actual night out, with Groove Armada giving it instant credibility with the crowd it’s chasing.

Tying the launch event to the “Superstylin'” anniversary is a nice touch that makes the tie-in feel earned rather than bolted on. It’s also a low-risk move for Groove Armada, who’ve spent decades comfortably in ad-land without it denting their credibility.

Could The Testlist become a recurring events series, or is this a one-off tied to the anniversary? Will other heritage acts from the rave era follow Groove Armada into health-adjacent brand deals?
