Watain is a Swedish black metal band formed in 1998 in Uppsala, Sweden. Its line-up comprises vocalist/bassist Erik Danielsson, guitarists Pelle Forsberg and Set Teitan, bassist Tore Stjerna, and drummer Hakan Jonsson. Their debut 7” went out in 1999 by the name The Essence of Black Purity and was showcased along with black metal artists Malign and Dark Funeral. The following year a full-length debut album called Rabid Death's Curse was released with End All Life Productions. The band went on to release a string of LP’s, including Casus Luciferi (2003), Sworn to the Dark (2007), Lawless Darkness (2010), The Wild Hunt (2013), and Trident Wolf Eclipse (2018). The band has toured Europe and North America along with bands like Celtic Frost, Kreator, Secrets of the Moon, and Averse Sefira.
