Wafia Al-Rikabi (born 4 August 1993), better known as Wafia, is an Australian singer and songwriter from Brisbane, Australia and is of Syrian-Iraqi descent. According to an interview with the singer, she was born in Amsterdam. While at biomedicine at university, the young artist released ‘Let Me Love You’ on Spotify, a cover of Mario’s popular song. Her release was a hit, gaining 5 million plays on Soundcloud. Since then, the now 26 year old singer has been signed by Future Classic who released her EP, ‘XXIX’ in 2015. In March that year, Wafia performed her first live show at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, where she was praised by Pharrell Williams, playing her single off the EP, ‘Heartburn’ countless times on his radio station. In the next year, she collaborated with artists such as Japanese Wallpaper on his track, ‘Breathe In’, her single, ‘Window Seat’ with Thomson and several singles with Perth producer Ta-Ku, releasing an EP together titled ‘(m)edian’. Wafia’s sweet vocals and ethereally pop tracks have brought her to fame, headlining for many festivals such as Lightning in A Bottle in 2017, Lalafest in 2018, Splendour in the Grass in 2016 and 2018 amongst her several shows around Australia every year. She released her second EP, ‘VIII’, in 2018 with successful singles such as ‘Bodies’ and ‘83 Days’. In the same year, she released her single, ‘I’m Good’, with 24 million plays on Spotify. Her most recent collaboration ‘Better Not’ with producer Louis The Child, has a smashing number of 124 million plays on Spotify.
