Violent Soho is an Australian alternative rock band formed in 2004 in Brisbane. It consists of guitarists and vocalists Luke Boerdam James Tidswell, bassist Luke Henery, and drummer Michael Richards. After making some noise in the local scene, their debut EP “Pigs & TV” earned the combo larger attention in 2006, and set them on a tour through Sydney and Melbourne. Two years later, the band released their first full-length album “Don't Belong Here”, and got considerable nationwide radio airplay. Praised by Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth, the band found its way into the artist’s label Peace Ecstatic soon after. Violent Soho then re-issued the album for a US release, and in 2013 they released their third album “Hungry Ghost,” following up with an Australian tour as a part of the “Big Day Out” festival. Released in the US a year later, “Hungry Ghost” became the band’s big break and reached gold status. In 2016 the band returned to issue “Waco” topping the ARIA charts, and managed to reach #1 again with their 2020 album “A-OK”.
