Vetusta Morla is a Spanish indie rock band, whose name derives from a turtle character in the children’s novel “The Endless Story.” The original lineup which formed in 1998 included Juan Pedro Martín (vocals), David García (drums), Jorge González (percussion), Alejandro Notario (bass) and Guillermo Galván (guitar). Later the band was joined by Juan Manuel Latorre (guitar, keyboard) and Álvaro B. Baglietto (bass, replacing Notario).
Vetusta Morla strove to break the cultural stereotypes of Spanish rock at the time. After getting rejected by several record labels, they formed their own label, Pequeño Salto Mortal. They’ve released three albums as of this writing; their first, “Un Día en el Mundo” (2008) sold platinum and was hailed by music critic Santiago Alcanda as “the best first album by a group in the history of Spanish rock.” Their two subsequent albums have been certified gold. Vetusta Morla has also contributed on soundtracks for several movies, including “La Herida” (2013) and “María y Yo” (2010).
