Venom is an English music band that was formed in 1978 in Newcastle, United Kingdom. The band is credited as the original founder of Black Metal. Cronos (bassist and singer) is famed to be the creator of Speed, Thrash, Death and Power Metal. The original band’s members include singer/bassist Conrad Lant (popularly known as Cronos), guitarist Jeff Dunn (also called Mantas), and drummer Tony Bray (popularly known as Abandon).

Venom’s debut album Welcome to Hell was released in 1981 through the Neat Records label. Black Metal and At War with Satan followed in 1982 and 1983. Prime Evil album debuted in 1989. Their second album was so influential that it was used as the name of the black metal genre, which they had created.

Their other albums include Possessed (1985), Calm Before the Storm (1987), Prime Evil (1989), Temples of Ice (1991), The Waste Lands (1992), Cast in Stone (1997), Resurrection (2000), Metal Black (2006), Hell (2008), Fallen Angels (2011) and From the Very Depths (2015)
