Vanessa Joy Amorosi is a singer and songwriter born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on August 8, 1981. Her genres of music include rock, pop, acoustic, soul, and gospel. She is associated with Sony BMG, Universal Music Australia, and Transistor Music Australia. She came into the limelight in 1999 with her debut single, Have a Look.
Vanessa performed at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. In 2001, Vanessa performed at the AFL Grand Final. Her debut album, The Power, earned her nominations for Best Female Artist and Best Pop Release in the 2001 ARIA Music Awards. The song Shine won her the APRA Award in 2001 for Most Played Song on Australian Radio.
Vanessa received international acclaim in Germany, winning Best International Newcomer at the 2001 VIVA Comet Awards. She supported Kiss on their 2008 Australian tour. Her album, City Of Angels, debuted at number one on the ARIA Australian Albums Chart, number seven on the ARIA Album Chart, and number one on the Independent Music Charts.
