George Ivan Morrison, also known as Van Morrison was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on August 31, 1945. His musical career started in the 1960s with the rock band Them, which produced the widely revered hit “Gloria”. After touring the U.S. with the band, producer Burt Berns convinced Morrison to start a solo career, debuting with 1968’s “Astral Weeks”, in which he worked with bassist Richard Davis and drummer Connie Kay. 1970’s full-length Moondance made it to the top 40 with singles like “Into the Mystic” and “Caravan”. After spending the 70’s crafting moderate hits, the single “Whenever God Shines His Light” (featuring Cliff Richard) from 1989’s full-length Avalon became a Top 20 U.K. hit. In the late ‘80s, Morrison oriented himself towards jazz, making appearances at the Montreux Festival. Up until 2019, the artist had cleared over 50 years of solo career, spawning around 40 LPs, between live and studio albums.
