Val Whiting is a former professional basketball player born on 9th April 1972 in South Orange, New Jersey. She played high school basketball for Ursuline Academy, where she won four Delaware scholastic basketball titles. She went on to play for college basketball for Stanford University. Over the four years she played for the team, she posted impressive stats and was named Freshman of the Year.

After graduating from college, she halted her plans of going to medical school so she can continue playing basketball. She had a short spell in Italy before going to Brazil where she spent two years. Whiting has also represented the United States in various tournaments and events and won gold medal with the US team at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
