Tolga Karaçelik is a fast-rising Turkish film director, screenwriter, and producer, who rose to prominence for his 2010 movie “Toll Booth.” The movie received critical acclaim and got him award nominations. He was born in Istanbul in 1981.
Karaçelik earned a law degree from Marmara University before moving to New York to further his education at the New York Film Academy. His directorial film debut came in 2010 with the drama movie “Toll Booth.” Before this, he had directed some shorts, such as Celik Comak (a music video for rock band Gevende) and Rapunzel (an eponymous tribute to a silent film comedy).
Toll Booth received widespread recognition and won three awards at the 47th Antalya Golden Orange International Film Festival. The movie established Karaçelik as one of the best upcoming directors in Turkish cinema.
The 41-year-old Turk worked on several films after the success of Toll Booth, such as “60 Seconds of Solitude in Year Zero,” “Ivy,” and “Butterflies.” Ivy premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. He also made a foray into acting, starring in the film “Kurtulus Son Durak.”
