The Comet Is Coming is a British jazz electronica band. The group was formed in 2013 by keyboardist Dan Leavers, saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings, and drummer Max Hallett, in London. The trio uses influences of science-fiction, outer space and futurism on their visual aesthetic, and their sound blends effortlessly funk, afrobeat, jazz and electronic music. Their debut EP “Prophecy” was released in 2015 through The Leaf Label, soon followed by their second EP “Death to the Planet”. In 2016, they released their debut studio album, “Channel the Spirits” through the same label. The album was very well received by critics, and that same year the band was nominated for a Mercury Prize. In 2019, they released their second album “Trust in the Lifeforce of the Deep Mystery”, which was heavily influenced by the sound of Alice Coltrane and Sun Ra.
