The Stray Cats are an American rockabilly revival band formed in 1979 in Long Island, New York. It originally consisted of Brian Setzer, Lee Rocker, and Slim Jim Phantom. After moving to London, the band met the producer Dave Edmunds with whom they recorded their self-titled debut album in 1981, along with their hit singles “Runaway Boys”, “Rock This Town”, and “Stray Cat Strut.” In 1982 the band returned to the US and released “Built for Speed”, which received a good amount of air time on MTV and made their three singles famous in America. Success followed with their second American LP “Rant n' Rave with the Stray Cats” in 1983. After a three year hiatus, the band reunited in 1986 and released “Rock Therapy”, followed by “Blastoff” (1989) and a tour with Stevie Ray Vaughan. The group disbanded again in the mid-90s after some minor hits. Yet another reunion in 2010 prompted extensive live work, and a 2019 album titled “40”.
