Stabbing Westward is an industrial metal band that actually was formed in 1985 by schoolmates Christopher Hall and Walter Flakus, but didn’t release until 1990. Their name came from their school, Western Illinois University, which they hated; Hall was emulating Robert Smith of the band The Cure and complaining his school mates “just didn’t get it.” The line-up is Christopher Hall (lead man), Mark Eliopulos (guitar), Walter Flakus (keyboard), and Johnny Haro (drums).
Stabbing Westward’s debut album “Ungod” was released on the Columbia label in 1993. Their next two albums, “Wither Blister Burn & Peel” (1996), and “Darkest Days” (1998) were certified RIAA gold. their singles output, from “What Do I Have to Do?” (1996) to “So Far Away” (2001) charted solid on the Billboard US Mainstream chart. The band went on a hiatus from 2002 to 2016, but are now active again.
