Sierra Hull is a Bluegrass singer, songwriter, and mandolinist born on September 27, 1991, in Byrdstown, Tennessee, USA. Her career began early; she debuted at the Grand Ole Opry at 10, played at Carnegie Hall at 12, and got signed to Rounder Records at 13. Her debut album, Secrets (2008), earned her several nominations for Mandolin Player of the Year.
At 16, she played the Kennedy Center. She was the first bluegrass musician to receive a Presidential Scholarship at the Berklee College of Music. At 20, she performed at the White House. Sierra worked with legendary bluegrass musician Bela Fleck to produce her third album, Weighted Mind. The album was nominated for Best Folk Album at the 2017 Grammy Awards. She has performed on stage with the Indigo Girls, Garth Brooks, Gillian Welch, and Marty Stuart.
In 2017, she received the International Bluegrass Music Association Awards (IBMA) for Best Mandolinist, becoming the first female instrumentalist to win in the award category. She has appeared on Power Station, Crooked Tree, My Bluegrass Heart, Christian and Country, and Fall Like Rain.
