Shabba Ranks, born Rexton Rawlston Fernando Gordon, is a Jamaican reggae DJ with a sound pulling inspiration from dancehall and hip-hop. He began working as a deejay at twelve, and his passion only grew from there. In 1991 and 1992, Gordon won Grammy awards for Best Reggae Album. He was the first dancehall DJ to accomplish this. His 2004 hit single, “Wicked In Bed” was featured on Grand Theft Auto San Andreas on the video game’s radio station.
Two of Shabba Ranks’ music videos – “Ting A Ling” and “House Call (Your Body Can’t Lie Me)” – did exceptionally well virtually, with over three million views a piece on YouTube. During his career, Gordon has worked with fellow artists Johnny McGill, Maxi Priest, Mykal Rose, and Chuck Berry, among others.
