Rowan Atkinson is an English comedian, actor and screenwriter. With his first job being as a voice actor for BBC Radio 3 in 1979, he gained widespread attention for his ability to morph into other characters. After a few television shows, Atkinson went on to work with the BBC in a show called Not the Nine O’clock News, and was a lead writer on the show. This then led to him having the lead role in The Black Adder, which he co-wrote with Richard Curtis. The show ran from 1983 to 1999 in various styles.
His most noteworthy performance to date is the hapless character Mr Bean, which he debuted in 1990 for Thames Television; he continued to play the character to widespread acclaim until 2012, when Atkinson retired the character. Since then, Atkinson has taken part in the highly successful Johnny English Franchise, with the third instalment currently filming.
