José Plácido Domingo Embil, born on 21 January 1941, in Madrid, Spain, is an award-winning Spanish opera singer and conductor widely-recognized for his versatility and tremendous talent. Throughout his stellar career, Domingo performed 151 different roles displaying his technique and tenacity in the areas of lirico-spinto tenor, otello and baritone. His multifaceted artistry and resonant voice won him eight Grammy and five Latin Grammy Awards while most of his albums were certified gold, platinum and multi-platinum. His first album Perhaps Love released in 1981 was a resounding success. In 1990, Domingo joined The Three Tenors along with Luciano Pavarotti and José Carreras with their first recording turning into the best-selling classical album. He also assumed the role of general director of the Washington National Opera from (1996–2011) and the Los Angeles Opera (2017-2019). His awards and accolades include Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year, Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music (2006), Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle, Spanish Prince of Asturias Award for Arts (1991), the United States Presidential Medal of Freedom and many more.
