Old 97’s is an American alternative country band formed in 1992. Founded by frontman Rhett Miller and bassist Murry Hammond, the band is considered to be pioneers of the alt-country music movement during the ’90s. The band combines cowpunk accents with pop and country elements to make music that energizes their audience. They released their debut album “Hitchhike to Rhome” in 1994 and garnered attention outside of the state’s club circuit. The follow-up album “Wreck Your Life” cemented their road to success. Over the course of their career, the band has released eleven studio albums and two full extended plays. Old 97’s consists of Rhett Miller as lead vocalist, Murry Hammond as bass guitarist and lead vocalist, Ken Bethea as lead guitarist and Philip Peeples as drummer and backing vocalist.
