Nozinja is a South African record producer, music engineer, electronic musician and DJ. He is best known for creating and popularizing the “shangaan electro” genre, characterized by its fusion of traditional African rhythms with fast beats of electronic music. Nozinja was born Richard Mthetwa, in Giyani, Limpopo, South Africa. His work has been highly acclaimed worldwide and he has received support from popular artists like Caribou, Mount Kimbie and Pearson Sound. In 2015, Nozinja released his debut album through Warp Records. It reached number 13 in Billboard’s World Albums Chart and Rolling Stone Magazine placed it on number 13 on their “20 Best EDM and Electronic Albums of 2015”. Nozinja has also produced several prominent African artists such as the Tshetsha Boys, Vuyelwa, and Nkata Mawewe.
