Motel, a soul-rock ensemble made up of Guillermo Méndez, Rodrigo Dávila Chapoy, José Damián, and Rubén Puente, was founded in Mexico in 2002. Before forming a band, both artists spent months independently practicing songs in recording studios. Later, they performed in bars in Mexico City before inviting José Damián and Rubén Puente to join the group. They released their debut album, Motel, in March 2006, along with the lead single, "Dime Ven”. In July 2006, "Dime Ven" reached its highest point in the Mexican top 40, taking second place just behind Julieta Venegas's "Me Voy." Moreover, Olvidame, Motel's second single, was released after initial success. The same year, Motel created Skimo es el Lugar for the Nickelodeon Latin America television sitcom Skimo.
