Michael Franti & Spearhead is an American folk/rock band formed in San Francisco, California in 1994. The members of the band are Michael Franti on vocals, J Bowman on guitar, Carl Young on bass guitar, Mike Blankenship on keyboards, and Manas Itiene on drums. The band was started under the name Spearhead, but after leaving Capitol Records they had to change it to Michael Franti & Spearhead. The band signed with Columbia Records and released their debut studio album titled Home in 1994. In 1997 they released their second album titled Chocolate Supa Highway. After the release of their second album they left Capitol Records, changed their name, and created their own label named Boo Boo Wax. In 2000 they released the album Stay Human and have since released the albums Everyone Deserves Music, Songs from the Front Porch, Yell Fire!, All Rebel Rockers, The Sound of Sunshine, All People, SoulRocker, and Stay Human, Vol. II.
