About Matthew Richardson
Australian rules footballer, Matthew Richardson was born on 19th March 1975 in Devonport, Tasmania. In the Australian Football League, he represented Richmond as the key forward before moving to goalkicking. He was chosen in the All-Australian Team in 1996, 1999, and 2008. He holds the record for the maximum number of goals kicked which also earned him a Coleman Medal. He also holds the record for maximum goal kicks at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He rose to become one of the most popular AFL players. This became evident when every vote that he bagged at the 2008 Brownlow Medal was cheered by the audience. The Herald Sun also wrote that there could not have been a player who was more popular. Richardson also made a name for being one of the toughest players, pushing through with a fractured eye socket in one of his games. After retiring in 2009 with 282 senior games, he was inducted as a Richmond Football Club and Australian Football Club life member. He went on to become an AFL expert commentator for Network Ten and was also part of the Seven Network AFL Telecast team.
