About Loverboy
Loverboy is a Canadian rock band formed in Toronto, Ontario, in 1979. It consisted of vocalist Mike Reno, guitarist Paul Dean, bassist Jim Clench (later replaced by Scott Smith), drummer Matt Frenette, and keyboard player Doug Johnson. Produced by Bruce Fairbairn, their 1980 self-titled debut became a hit, selling over 700,000 copies that year. With their second full-length album “Get Lucky” the band also reached the top 10 in the US with the single “Working for the Weekend”, and was awarded six Juno Awards. The success continued with “Keep It Up” in 1983. After the more modest “Lovin' Every Minute of It” (1985) “Wildside” (1987), the band split up in 1988. Some live reunions, including a live performance with Bryan Adams and Bon Jovi, prompted the band to return to the studio in 1997 to record “VI”, their sixth full-length album. The 2000s saw some live compilation releases and a 25th-anniversary tour, and in 2009 the band was introduced to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. In 2012 the band released “Rock ‘n' Roll Revival” featuring old and new material.
